Studio 52 Spotlight: Rebuilder

What Studio 52 Says: After releasing arguably one of the best punk records to come out of Boston with 2015’s Rock & Roll in America, Rebuilder is ready to blitz the incoming autumn with their next phenomenal venture. The hometown tribute found in their Sounds From The Massachusetts Turnpike EP is a step in the best kind of direction for them. Bending the existing guidelines of the genre, they don’t seem to like being nailed down to a specific sound; and that’s something you can definitely tell they enjoy. Each of the six songs on the EP is a display of fun, energetic, and highly addictive “gnarly-punk” that’s just begging to be screamed out loud. Luckily we all get the opportunity to do just that, as this weekend brings an illustrious occasion to our city. Recently coming off tour with recent Studio 52 Featured Band Choke Up, both bands will converge in Allston to each present a new record in a dual release show. In addition to today’s official unchaining of Sounds From The Massachusetts Turnpike, Choke Up will also be releasing their excellent new full-length Stormy Blue on September 15 (if you pre-ordered the record, there’s a good chance it’s already in your hands.) Sporting an evolution from their former releases, Stormy Blue has quickly become our most-played record of the year so far. Adding a touch of the blues to their already superb style of punk, we didn’t think they could top their last full-length, 2015’s Black Coffee, Bad Habits. However, the ripening of the band in the interim has never made us so happy to be wrong because Stormy Blue is nothing short of masterful. Bottom line — both bands make us not only proud to run our space, but to live in Boston and experience the flourishing music scene we have. We can’t think of a better way to kick off the month than this release show, and you can catch it at Great Scott in Allston this Saturday night (September 2) with Timeshares and Chrome Over Brass. — Andrew Maroney, Studio 52
