Studio 52 Spotlight: Weakened Friends
What Studio 52 Says: Self-proclaimed indie noise junk band Weakened Friends have found an excellent balance and unique sound in polished pop melodies over fuzzy guitar riffs, ripping basslines, and drumbeats with a classic indie rock 4/4 drive. Hailing from Boston, Portland, and Toronto, the trio now calls the Maine city their home, but they are certainly no strangers to the Boston music scene. After gaining momentum gigging with bands such as CHVRCHES, Silversun Pickups, Beach Slang and Juliana Hatfield, they owned the stage earlier this year down in Austin at South-By-Southwest 2017. What’s perhaps even more impressive is that they recently teamed up with guitar legend and Dinosaur Jr. front man J Mascis for their new single “Hate Mail”, which you can check out on Spotify or in the embed below. Come witness the indie noise junk radness for yourself tonight (Friday, September 8) at O’Brien’s Pub in Allston, or check out their social media for the rest of their ongoing East Coast tour dates. — Trevor McSweeney, Studio 52
