New Sounds: What we all need now is a fresh cup of Diane Coffee

Yeah so sometimes you wake up on a rainy-ass Wednesday morning and think that everything sounds the same. And then you hear the new Diane Coffee joint and you realize you’re just fucking wrong.

Shaun Fleming’s retro-rock odyssey sails on today with a fresh new track called “Poor Man Dan,” and needless to say, we’re here for it. It’s giving us some much needed life on this dreary September workday, and sending sweet shiny sunbeams of glammy harmonic soul-fed goodness straight into our groggy hearts.

“Poor Man Dan” one of two new singles off Diane Coffee’s upcoming PEEL 7-inch, due October 20 on Polyvinyl. “Both tracks deal with pain,” says the Indiana native Fleming. “‘Poor Man Dan’ is about an urban legend of my childhood. A neighborhood man who loses his daughter starts killing kids from the block to give her someone to play with.”

Oh shit there goes the sunbeam. Oh well, at least the music is lifting us up.

In November, Diane Coffee heads out on a quick run across multiple states, and plays the Middle East in Cambridge with Peach Pit on November 9. Those on the other side of mighty Massachusetts can drink it in the following night at the Iron Horse in Northampton, and no matter which side of the state you swing, we strongly encourage checking it out.
