RIP: Family confirms death of rock and roll icon Tom Petty

After reports yesterday that Tom Petty was on life support after suffering from a heart attack, Petty’s manager confirmed night that the legend has died, according to Rolling Stone.

Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers manager Tony Dimitriades has released a statement regarding Petty’s death, confirming that he passed away late last night (October 2).

“On behalf of the Tom Petty family we are devastated to announce the untimely death of of our father, husband, brother, leader and friend Tom Petty. He suffered cardiac arrest at his home in Malibu in the early hours of this morning and was taken to UCLA Medical Center but could not be revived. He died peacefully at 8:40 p.m. PT surrounded by family, his bandmates and friends,” he stated.

Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers recently performed in Boston at TD Garden in July as a part of their tour celebrating the 40th anniversary of their self-titled debut album.
