Can’t Stay Away: Winter returns to Allston with all her dream-pop glory

Studio 52 is a community artist space located in the heart of Allston, and is proud to support the Boston music scene and local artist community.

It’s always been hard to keep up with the whereabouts of Samira Winter.

Once a staple of the Boston music scene, the Brazilian-born musician has relocated a number of times, currently calling Los Angeles home. But when she dipped from Massachusetts in 2013, she promised Vanyaland she could juggle both coasts and not leave us here hanging. She’ll be making good on her vow once again tonight (October 9) at Great Scott with Vancouver-based Peach Pit and Somerville’s The Land of Enchantment.

“Whenever I come to the East Coast, we’ll definitely play, and vice versa,” Winter told Vanyaland back in 2013. “We have a lot of chemistry and a whole lifetime, so this is not the end by any means.”

Winter’s catalogue, albeit brief, brims with all the goodness of bubbly dream-pop, from “Alligator,” her parting gift to Boston, to new track “Jaded,” a ’90s-esque guitar romp full of sugary shredding. She dropped an equally nostalgic DIY video for the new track last month.

After wrapping up a tour with Cherry Glazerr, we can only hope that new tunes are either on the setlist or in the works. But there’s only one way to find out.
