Jawbreaker doc ‘Don’t Break Down’ screening at Brattle (same night as Hot Snakes at Mid East)

Last month Jawbreaker pulled off the inconceivable and officially reunited at Riot Fest in Chicago, proceeded by under-the-radar warm-up gigs in Albany and San Francisco. For those in New England who couldn’t make it to any of those shows, there is a glimmer of hope that the influential New York City band could take their show on the road in 2018.

As we hold our breath, we’ll at least get a different kind of Jawbreaker treat coming soon: A screening premiere of Don’t Break Down: A Film About Jawbreaker at the Brattle Theatre in Cambridge on November 17.

If that date sounds familiar, it’s because Hot Snakes, another band on the reunion juice, are playing just down Massachusetts Avenue at the Middle East in Cambridge. Given the screening’s 8 p.m. start time and the Mid East’s usual scheduling, it’s possible that those with a bounce in their step or an Uber at the ready could pull off both.

UPDATE: We’re told Hot Water Music are at The Sinclair on this night as well. Does this count as a Cambridge music festival?

Here’s word on Don’t Break Down: A Film About Jawbreaker, with the trailer and international screening below.

“In 2007, 11 years after one of the most influential American punk bands, Jawbreaker, called it quits the three members — Blake Schwarzenbach, Chris Bauermeister, and Adam Pfahler — reconnected in a San Francisco recording studio to listen back to their albums, reminisce and even perform together. Follow the band as they retell their ‘rags to riches to rags’ story rife with inner band turmoil, health issues, and the aftermath of signing to a major label.”

Oh and — the Brattle screening also promises a “Q&A with Guests TBA!”, so you might not want to wait on scoring advance tickets to this one.
