RIP: Vanyaland photographer Eddy Leiva has died

Vanyaland is devastated to relay and confirm the news of the passing of Eddy Leiva. The immensely talented and affable Boston-based photographer, who could be seen at shows around town every night of the week, was 35.

“The Leiva Ruiz family regrets to communicate with the broken heart the early departure of our beloved son and very dear brother Eddy Leiva, a great man, a talented photographer, a loving son and a very dear brother,” writes Romy Leiva. “His absence leaves an immense emptiness in our hearts … please join us with a prayer. We love you with all our hearts hermanito God bless you always.❤️”

Vanyaland confirmed the news with the family this morning.

“That was his whole life, those photographs,” a family member told us by phone. “He was very talented, very sensitive.”

The cause of Leiva’s death has not been made public.

Leiva, a native of Peru, has led our photography department since our launch, and was nominated this year and last for Music Photographer of the Year at the Boston Music Awards. His work can be viewed here.

Our thoughts go out to his friends and family.
