‘Deadpool 2’ wet-on-whets the appetite with a Bob Ross-themed teaser

Given that Justice League is hitting theaters Friday (check out our review here), you’d expect a ton of trailers to drop in the week before like any big release. What you might not expect is that a trailer for a Marvel movie — Deadpool 2, in fact — is going to premier in front of it.

Why?

Because it’s a Fox movie, dummy, and the only thing Marvel Studios hates more than releasing movies with female leads are the bastards who snatched away the rights to the X-Men and the Fantastic Four when the comic book company was in financial trouble and now won’t give them back. So it makes a good deal of sense that Fox would use the enemy of their enemy as a friend, and as such, the second trailer (don’t forget about the one in front of Logan!) for Deadpool 2 will be attached to that film’s trailer package.

However, it probably won’t be this profanity-laced Bob Ross tribute that Fox dropped today, even though it’s funny as all hell. And we’re as surprised as you are that Ryan Reynolds can do a decent Ross impression.

Despite the exaggerated Adult Swim vibes we get from the parody here, we get glimpses of returning faces (TJ Miller! Karan Son! Negasonic Teenage Warhead! Pam!) and bits and pieces teasing the new members of the cast, including Josh Brolin’s Cable and Zazie Beetz’ Domino. It’s more of a tease than anything else, which is why we’re thinking a longer (and “fuck” free) trailer will be coming on Thursday night or Friday. That poster kicks ass, though.

Here’s a synopsis, presented without commentary, from the Fox YouTube page:

After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.

Deadpool 2 hits theaters on June 1, 2018.
