Ahhh, The Rat. Either you were there, or you are condemned to spend the rest of your life hearing all about it.

Either way, the long-gone Kenmore Square rock club remains an integral and influential part of the Boston music scene, and Mayor Martin J. Walsh has declared today (November 16) as Rathskeller Day around town.

The announcement comes as a new CD/DVD compilation, Live at the Rat Suite, will be released tonight at Hotel Commonwealth, the fancy-pants hotel that currently stands where the dingy-ass rock club once operated.

The album was recorded live in the hotel’s “Rat Suite,” and features music by Nervous Eaters, The Dogmatics, Robin Lane and the Chartbusters, Willie “Loco” Alexander, Richie Parsons, and others, and its proceeds will benefit the Right Turn charity.

Check out Walsh’s full proclamation below, and scan the Live at the Rat Suite track listing as well.
