Lights On: Watch Julien Baker make her late-night television debut

One of the highlights, for us at least, of this morning’s Boston Calling lineup reveal was seeing Julien Baker’s name appear alongside the likes of Alvvays, Big Thief, St. Vincent, and Charly Bliss. For what the festival lacks in female headliners, it delivers in the undercard, and Baker’s set is sure to be a highlight under that springtime sun.

Last night, coincidentally, the Memphis songwriter made her late-night television debut, performing the title track to her acclaimed 2017 record Turn Out The Lights on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

If Baker’s able to harness the subtle power of her live show for a television audience, she should have no troubles displaying it outside at the Harvard Athletic Complex.

Baker heads to Japan for a pair of dates this month, the hits the United Kingdom and Ireland (supporting Belle and Sebastian) in March before an appearance at Iowa City’s Mission Creek Festival in April. Expect more dates surrounding May’s Boston Calling gig and into the summer.
