New Sounds: Justin Timberlake unveils funk-hop single ‘Filthy’

When Justin Timberlake announced the release of his one-with-nature-esque LP Man of the Woods earlier this week, fans had a lot of questions. Now, with the arrival of the album’s first single “Filthy,” which dropped this morning (January 5), we have even more things on our list to probe the singer about.

After releasing some Bon-Iver-lookin’ album art and promo visuals, Man of the Woods seemed to be angling for a folk or roots vibe, but “Filthy” signals the continuance of JT’s penchant for funk.

Borrowing some of Timberlake’s signature nu-disco magic, “Filthy” presents a futuristic dance tune with heavy, warbly techno beats at center stage. What’s more, Timerberlake plays the role of a Steve Jobs-type character in the video, which also dropped this AM. At least his giant hipster glasses align with what we were expecting from this new era.

Peep the new video and track below, and brace yourself for more musical ~surprises~ from our reborn mountain man between now and February 2.
