Let’s Make A Video: Poppy unveils teaser for new YouTube Red show

Poppy, our kawaii bubblegum AI overlord, is releasing a TV show via Youtube Red, and what we know thus far makes as little sense as one would expect.

Yesterday, the starlet tweeted a teaser for the series, which premieres this Thursday (January 25), although the world premiere of the aptly-named pilot of I’M POPPY takes place today (January 23) at Sundance. If Poppy’s regular, ambient yet creepy YouTube monologues aren’t satiating your pop culture cravings, then this forthcoming series with collaborator and director Titanic Sinclair might supplement your weekly dose of weird.

The 57-second teaser reveals little more than its vague description does, but what we can assert is that the program will include Poppy frenemy Charlotte the mannequin (as seen as Poppy’s opening act at the Sinclair last November) and the quest to make the world “happy and cute, just like Poppy.” Nope, not unsettling at all.

In fact, we wouldn’t put the singer above reciting “I’m Poppy” for 25 minutes every episode, either.

“Join Internet sensation Poppy as she enters the real world for the very first time and quickly realizes that fame and fortune comes at a price with secret societies, dangerous fanatics, and a very envious mannequin named Charlotte,” the video description reads.

A juicy tidbit that the teaser did reveal is that Poppy supposedly has 50 million “followers,” or what we interpret to mean YouTube subscribers — a number that has been kept secret on her Youtube page up until this point. If true, she’s the second most subscribed to YouTuber, right after PewDiePie. But again, these numbers are not verified and could easily be a part of the fictional storyline.

Check out the teaser below, and fire up those free YouTube Red trials. It’s gonna be a long, strange trip.
