Studio 52 Spotlight: Worshipper
What Studio 52 Says: Long time 52 residents Worshipper have been both defining and refining metal during their entire impressive run as a band. Recipients of “Metal Band of the Year” at both 2015 and 2016 Boston Music Awards, they also own the title from the latter year’s Rock And Roll Rumble. Their classic rock-inspired arrangements are riddled with chugging riffs and scouring solos that scratch the itch for any metal fan. Their latest album, fall 2016’s Shadow Hymns, is a testament and tribute to the genre, and one of the most solid and consistent metal releases we’ve witnessed spawn from our city. The album takes all the fragments we love about legendary metal bands and molds them into a contemporary piece of brilliant rock and roll from start to finish. Cranking each song to 11 and above, Worshipper consistently release dominant material that further propels them towards rock royalty. Catch them tonight (February 2) with two bands we think can trade musical blows with them — Hey Zeus and The Skull. These three powerhouses are upstairs at the Middle East in Cambridge, with The Skull playing the self-titled record of their precursor band, Trouble. — Andrew Maroney, Studio 52
