Fast Tracked: Riah takes us to an electronic-pop ‘Prom’ …and we never want to leave

Riah doesn’t want to call, but she’s thinkin’ ’bout of you. That alone should catch the attention of anyone with a pulse, but it’s the underlying magnetic allure of her new single “Prom” that’s bound to have us thinking about her for quite a while. The somersaulting, post-romantic electronic-pop track, which wouldn’t feel out of place on the Drive soundtrack or spun at a party hosted by Johnny Jewel, is only Riah’s fourth single, but should position her as a vital voice in 2018’s inevitable redefinition of pop music. Last month the singer-songwriter was featured on Shallou’s new track “Lie,” and here her stylish and sophisticated grace on “Prom” feels like a proper reflection of her own voice. We can’t wait to hear what’s next, but not before we listen to “Prom,” one of the best new songs we’ve heard in this early year, a few thousand times. Riah plays the Peppermint Club in Los Angeles tonight (February 9) before sharing the stage with COIN at The Henry Fonda Theater on March 9. Both are suddenly must-attend events — unlike that so-called “Prom” of your own youth.
