Snow Patrol are back with a very relatable message: ‘Don’t Give In’

It’s been a dozen years since Snow Patrol first soundtracked our broken relationships with “Chasing Cars,” and now the Northern Irish-Scottish rock band are back with some more fine-tuned advice in the form of emotional support-pop. In short, they don’t want us to give in. The weathered, folk-ish “Don’t Give In” leads Snow Patrol’s new record Wildness, their first in seven years. The track was premiered yesterday (March 21) via BBC Radio 2; singer-songwriter Gary Lightbody says, via Paste, the track “was originally about a friend going through a tough time but the more I wrote into it I realized it was about me and the struggle of making the album — which took five years and was not easy –coupled with the struggle with depression I’ve had since I was a kid, so it has become the talisman of the album. The song that became a self-fulfilling prophecy.” Wildness is out May 25, and next month, Snow Patrol bump a bi-coastal Stateside two-fer with shows in NYC (Irving Plaza on April 11) and Los Angeles (The Fonda Theatre on April 25) before a May tour or Ireland.
