Studio 52 Spotlight: Beware the Dangers of a Ghost Scorpion!

What Studio 52 Says: Formed in 2003 in Denton County, Texas, Beware the Dangers of a Ghost Scorpion! relocated to Boston in 2011 to warn locals about arachnid poltergeists and bestow upon our scene their spooky approach to instrumental surf rock that sounds like a Halloween special version of The Ventures. Fuzzy, jangly guitar tones manifest an old school surf-rock sound while the drums bang in true surf-punk convention, making their songs crash heavily and steadily against your ears like 30 foot waves pounding sand. Seen usually as a four piece, BTDOAGS has a mysterious fifth member, otherwise known as “the nameless one,” who menacingly shakes a tambourine and acts as band leader when he’s not off getting into countless other ominous endeavors. Rumored to be a mild mannered intellectual out of the spotlight, when “the nameless one” hits the stage sodden with gin, he points his wretched bony finger at the crowd and pierces their terrified hearts with his dead eyes. Come cap off your hump day in eerie fashion this Wednesday (March 28) with BTDOAGS, Rye Pines, Leopard Print Taser, and Cult Fiction at Great Scott in Allston. Will “the nameless one” make an appearance and shock the crowd into paralysis right where they stand with only his supernatural glare? There’s only one way to find out. — Trevor McSweeney, Studio 52
