Gang Of Four take aim at Trump on ‘Ivanka (Things You Can’t Have)’

Post-punk legends Gang Of Four, who back in the day taught us a thing or two about damaged goods (and how to send them back), return this Friday (April 20) with a new EP titled Complicit.

The EP’s artwork, depicting Ivanka Trump standing in front of two United States flags, was enough to generate headlines on its own, but now Andy Gill’s revitalized crew are honing in on the First Daughter once again with a new single titled “Ivanka (Things You Can’t Have)”.

The track is a bit of a weird one, veering more towards bouncy electronica than the band’s traditional angular guitar-rock sound. Accompanying news of the single is this statement from Gill, who sheds some light on this whole thing: “It would’ve been easy to be extremely damning about Donald Trump and of course, like everyone else, I could have called him all kinds of names. What drew me to this subject at all was the running commentary from Ivanka in the earlier stages of this administration — it was fascinating to get a kind of explanation or justification from the daughter who had already been given an official position within the White House. And frankly, a lot of it was pretty funny. But although the characters in the Trump family are interesting, it’s more the ideologies and politics which they represent and enable which need describing.”

Hey, sure, fine, whatever.
