‘Never Goin’ Back’ Trailer: A modern-day NSFW stoner odyssey

We deeply regret that we missed Never Goin’ Back Augustine Frizzell’s debut feature — about two poor stoner girls (Maia Mitchell and Camila Morrone) who just want to go to the goddamn beach — at both SXSW and IFFBoston, but we won’t have to wait too long to finally see it for ourselves. Uber-producer/distributor A24 dropped a new poster and trailer for the film today, and let us just say that we are here for it, folks.

Take a look at the trailer — though be warned that it is most definitely not safe for work:

We got a couple of deeply solid belly laughs out of this one (especially with Mitchell’s retort about “the city coming down on them”), and honestly we’re pretty stoked that this is coming out soon enough. It feels like the perfect summer movie especially for this particular summer, and we’re glad that A24 picked it up. Let’s hope they give it the wide-ish release that it deserves, because we really want to laugh at this with a ton of other stoned randos.

Here’s a synopsis, via the A24 website:

Never Goin’ Back is a fresh and funny look at female friendship, following Angela (Maia Mitchell) and Jessie (Camila Morrone), who dream of escaping their waitressing jobs at a low-rent Texas diner, even if it’s only to Galveston. Taking place over just a few days, the film follows their hilarious and unpredictable misadventures on the streets of suburban Dallas as they attempt increasingly madcap and wild schemes to try and raise some cash.

And here’s the new poster:

Never Goin’ Back hits theaters on August 3. We can’t wait.
