Editor's Note: Summer doesn't officially start until Thursday, as that annoying-ass person in your office loves to pint out. So until then we're beholden to the whims and trims of Boston's volatile spring, and the spontaneous thunderstorms mother nature loves to throw our way. Last night (June 18) at The Blue Hills Bank Pavilion, down by thah wahtah, a crazy bout of thunder couldn't slow down the kickoff of Spoon and Grizzly Bear's co-headlining tour across the eastern half of the U. S. of A. Both bands, repping modern-day indie rock royalty, are on the road hyping their own 2017 albums; Britt Daniel and Spoon are showing off weirdly underrated LP Hot Thoughts, while the Grizz are here holding up last summer's Painted Ruins, a mindful fit of a record aided by buzzy single "Mourning Sound", which kind of feels like one of those songs that define an era. Once the thunder subsided last night, both bands got to work quickly on their own sound, and man-about-town Ben Stas was in the middle of it all capturing snaps of both.
