Studio 52 is a community artist space located in the heart of Allston, and is proud to support the Boston music scene and local artist community.

Anyone who has watched or followed the news in recent weeks knows this is a very tense and trying time around our nation’s borders. Many of us are left with a feeling of hopelessness, wondering what can do to make a positive change or simply fuel the efforts of those on the figurative and literal front lines.

Reunited Boston band Trophy Lungs have one option, and it involves their reunion gig Tuesday night (June 26) at O’Brien’s Pub in Allston. Following the band and frontman Kevin Bogart’s efforts over the years in their Solidarity Mixtape releases — December 2014 for Black Lives Matter and February 2017 for Planned Parenthood — Trophy Lungs will headline Solidarity Mixtape Live Edition: A benefit for the Student Immigrant Movement alongside The New Warden and Birdwatching.

All proceeds from the door, as well as sales of Trophy Lungs’ merch, will go towards the Massachusetts-based Student Immigrant Movement, or SIM. There’s a minimum donation of $10 being asked as the cover.

“The Student Immigrant Movement has been doing the hard work in Boston for years,” Bogart tells Vanyaland. “Right now, in a moment of incredible tension and fear, the sheer courage of SIM is more important than ever. Led by immigrant youth, supporting immigrant youth, literally stopping deportations and developing generation after generation of leaders is a legacy we have to be supporting right now.”

This will be Trophy Lungs’ first show since their split in October 2016, and in addition to drag performances, they’ve also brought along some friends for the benefit cause.

“The New Warden, in our opinion, are the best band in Boston,” Bogart adds. “They played our first show, they played our last show, it’s only fitting that they play our reunion. Birdwatching are friends of friends and they’re super good. We wanted to have a band we’ve never played with before on the show so new people get to throw beer cans at us.”
