Fox News airs La Roux’s ‘Bulletproof’ during report on bulletproof backpacks for kids

Been there, done that, messed around — La Roux’s having fun, don’t put her down. And definitely don’t use her biggest song in a news segment about bulletproof clothing and backpacks.

But that’s exactly what Fox Business Network did when it ran La Roux’s 2009 banger “Bulletproof” during a segment on bulletproof attire perfect for that back-to-school shopping trip. The report aired earlier this week during Mornings With Maria Bartiromo, and you can watch video of it below via Katie Sullivan, deputy director of non-profit group Media Matters.

Bartiromo says some of the backpacks and clothing items are “quite fashion forward,” which, coincidentally, is how we’d describe La Roux’s Elly Jackson. But maybe not backpacks designed to protect children from school shootings.

Naturally, Jackson was appalled by the song choice, and told Stereogum the following: “Using ‘Bulletproof’, a song I wrote about relationships, for a piece like this is abhorrent. I have never, and would never approve my music to be used in this way.”

Yikes.
