The Brazen Youth craft their own abstract ‘Primitive Initiative’

The Brazen Youth are back, and this time no semi-nude video shoots were involved. The indie duo have matured a bit since their 2016 album The Ever Dying Bristlecone Man; for one, they’ve added a member — Micah Rubin — to their musical roster, and on top of that, their sophistication has done nothing but marinate over the past two years. The result is their self-released 2018 album Primitive Initiative, an exercise in crafting ambient folk music in rural Connecticut that adds brass elements to the most unexpected places (see: The French horn and trombone tucked into the extraordinarily abstract number “My Feet My Sun”). Peep all nine new tracks (and one trippy interlude) below. Featured photo courtesy of Force Field PR.
