We need to talk about Vanessa Silberman. Originally from Los Angeles, the singer and guitarist is often spotted as the co-pilot of 2017 Rock And Roll Rumble winner and overall badass Carissa Johnson, but Silberman has a solo storm brewing. Following her 2016 self-titled EP, 2k18 has brought her new heavy-hitting single and music video “Outswimming Sharks,” a sneaky lil track that crashes into the chorus and gracefully recedes for every verse like a moody tidal wave. And don’t even get us started on the guitar-driven ferocity of “OK.” Silberman and Johnson hit up Life Alive in Cambridge this Thursday (September 13) for an acoustic set as part of their Rise and Shine tour; catch up on her new material below. Glad we had this chat.
