‘Bumblebee’ Trailer 2: The O.G. Transformers are back

It’s a pretty big year for Transformers fans: The 1986 feature film is coming back to cinemas soon, a new TV show just hit the Cartoon Network a few weeks back, and, to top it all off, it looks like we might finally be getting a decent live-action film from the beloved children’s property at the end of 2018. That’s right: The Travis Knight-helmed Bumblebee got another trailer today, and it’s looking better than ever thanks to some smartly-used nostalgia. The Laika founder and son of Nike honcho Phil seems to have his finger on the pulse for what nerds want, and that’s the Generation One ‘bots on the big screen.

Take a look:

Well, that’s most certainly not a Michael Bay movie! How ’bout that Optimus Prime? We’re finding it very hard not to salivate here, especially after seeing that classic Soundwave (complete with Ravage popping out of his cassette-playing chest!), so we’ll just move on to the less nostalgia-filled sections of this post before we ruin this keyboard with drool.

Here’s a synopsis:

“On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.”

Bumblebee hits theaters on December 21, the most crowded studio release date of the year. Seriously, this thing is going up against the likes of Aquaman, Mary Poppins Returns, Alita: Battle Angel, Holmes and Watson (where the hell is that trailer?), Welcome to Marwen, and if you’re pretentious like we are, Pawel Pawlikowski’s Cold War. It’s a virtual battle royal at the Christmas box office this year.
