Take a first look at the teaser poster for the live-action ‘Aladdin’

Aladdin

It’s been an eventful year for the Disney Live-Action Remake industry, even though only one movie — the lukewarmly received Christopher Robin — has graced screens so far. We got our first look at the live-action Mulan earlier this year, Tim Burton’s Dumbo has a full trailer out now for several months, and people lost their damn minds back when a VFX artist happened to be working on a maquette that looked just a little bit like Mufasa from The Lion King and posted some pics to his Instagram. Still, one of the films closest on the horizon — Guy Ritchie’s take on Aladdin — hadn’t released any footage or stills, aside from a brief pic Will Smith posted on set a few months back.

That all changed on Wednesday when The Fresh Prince took to his Instagram to debut the first teaser poster for the remake, which may not excite anybody except for the moths amongst us. Bet you can’t guess who he’s going to play here:

It’s not a terribly exciting poster, but it is a fun tease of what’s going to come out of Ritchie’s Agraba. In addition to the aforementioned Fresh Genie of Bell-Air, Aladdin stars Mena Massoud as the titular character, Naomi Scott as Prince Jasmine, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, and Navid Negahban as the Sultan. The animated film’s composer, Alan Meneken, will be composing the score, and will co-write new songs with La La Land songsmiths Pasek and Paul. We’re pretty confident that anything Ritchie does now will be better than King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, so we’ve got some decently high hopes for this one.

Aladdin hits theaters on May 24, 2019.
