Peter Bjorn and John provide a reason to escape on ‘Wrapped Around The Axle’

We’ve been pretty sweet on new sounds from Peter Bjorn and John lately, and now the Swedish trio is back with another track from their forthcoming October 19 album, Darker Days. This cut is called “Wrapped Around The Axle”, and it packs a subtle thump, tightly woven around the usual Peter Bjorn and John knack for melody. “I got the idea for ‘Wrapped Around the Axle’ when two friends of mine were having problems in their relationship,” says Bjorn Yttling. “I knew them both for many years, so it was very emotional for me too. I think both of them wanted it to work, but the more they tried they realized they were being dragged deeper and deeper into something ever darker. It made me think that sometimes an honorable walkover is the only alternative; or to quote the Swedish author Klas Östergren: ‘I’m leaving the table, I’m out of the game.'” We’re glad Peter Bjorn and John never left the indie-pop game, and this new album, their eighth, proves there’s plenty left in the tank as they approach their 20th anniversary of making music together. Welcome them back to Boston when they play Brighton Music Hall on November 29, the start of a nine-date North American tour.
