Weakened Friends’ banner year knows no bounds. After taking the stage at Boston Calling in May and signing to Don Giovanni Records in August, the Portland band has most recently been revving up for the release of their debut LP, this month dropping the track “Good Friend.”
And it’s anything but a Common Blah.
“’Good Friend’ is actually about something pretty dark,” says singer/guitarist Sonia Sturino. “A few years ago, our home town music community was pretty shook after the passing of a friend of ours from addiction. It’s really weird now to picture that person in rooms and places that you know you’ll never see them in again and the feeling that you could have done more at the time to help. I’m a pretty introverted person, but I’m trying to be better about reaching out to friends and making time for them especially when they’re going through something heavy. This song is essentially about doing exactly that.”
Their full record officially drops on October 19, when the band also kickstarts a new set of tour dates to take Common Blah on the road. Listen to the followup to fellow new track “Blue Again” below.
