Are The 1975 playing Boston Calling 2019? No, no they are not

UPDATE: October 17 @ 11:09 a.m.: The 1975 are not playing Boston Calling, because they just unveiled a May 30 date at Agganis Arena. We like to think there were some sketchy back-alley negotiations that fell through at the very last moment, but probably not.

Ok, look, we don’t want to keep playing this game, but it’s a slow-ass news day (for some reason), and we just can’t help ourselves.

Last week we asked “Are Greta Van Fleet playing Boston Calling?”, a question inspired by the Michigan band’s Spring 2019 tour itinerary, one that comes up to the Northeast around Memorial Day weekend but noticeably avoids the Boston area. Greta Van Fleet have some open dates when Boston Calling goes down from May 24 to 26, so we had some fun speculating.

Well, we’re gonna speculate some more, child, because The 1975 just announced a bunch of Spring 2019 dates — and yup, there’s no Boston date included even though they are in our part of the world around that time.

So, we ask no one in particular — Are The 1975 playing Boston Calling?

Included among the dates Matt Healy and the dudes unveiled today is a yawning gap around when Boston Calling takes place. The 1975 play D.C. on May 21, then have an open stretch of nothingness until hitting Darien Lake in New York State on June 2 before playing Toronto the following night.

So…. maybe?

We won’t know until Boston Calling unveils its 2019 lineup sometime in early January. But in the meantime, it’s fun to speculate, and The 1975 are certainly no stranger to the fest, playing it back in 2014 and again in 2017. Peep all their dates below, and heads up: The 1975’s new album, A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships, drops November 30.
